Man killed, 3 others injured in South Austin drive-by shooting, CPD says

A man is dead and three other people were injured in a drive-by shooting in the city's South Austin neighborhood on Monday evening.

The shooting happened just before 7:30 p.m. in the 0-100 block of North Lockwood Avenue.

Chicago police said four men, ages 27, 32, 34, and 36, were on the sidewalk when an unknown SUV pulled up alongside. Someone from inside the vehicle pulled out a gun and fired shots at all four victims.

A witness said it sounded like the Fourth of July and machine guns going off.

Violence interrupters were at the scene of the shooting, speaking with family members of the victims.

The 27-year-old was hit in the right leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition.

The 32-year-old was shot in the face and was taken to Mount Sinai, where he died.

The 34-year-old was also shot in the right leg and was also taken to Mount Sinai in critical condition.

The 36-year-old was hit in the right flank and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

"We want you all to pray for the families and pray for our city," said Hyson Harper with Anchor Chicago. "Right now, we're hitting our peak season where it's warm outside, and the biggest thing is just to try to make sure our children and families are safe."

No further information, including whether any arrests were made, was immediately available.

Area Four Detectives are investigating.
