$350K Bond For Teen Charged In Robbery, Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 15-year-old Dolton boy was ordered held on $350,000 bond Saturday after allegedly shooting someone during an attempted armed robbery Thursday in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

Judge Laura Sullivan ordered Neil McCray, 15, of the 14800 block of Dorchester Avenue in Dolton, was held on $350,000 bond during a hearing in Cook County Criminal Court, according to a court clerk.

McCray, who was charged as an adult with aggravated battery with a firearm and attempted robbery with a firearm, is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Monday in Violence Court (Br. 66), the clerk said.

McCray was arrested after being identified by the victim as the person who shot and demanded money from him, according to the clerk.

The 27-year-old victim was arguing with the assailant, who shot him about 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the 5300 block of West Adams Street, according to police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

The suspect fled and the victim suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and upper back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, according to Zala.

During the incident, McCray allegedly stated to the victim: "Give up you sh--,'' which is street slang for demanding money, according to court records.

Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
