"Significant'' Amount Of Cash Taken In Marquette Park Holdup
CHICAGO (STMW) - A clerk at a currency exchange on the Southwest Side was robbed at gunpoint reportedly over $50,000 in the Marquette Park neighborhood Saturday morning.
Shortly after 8 a.m. two men, one brandishing a silver revolver, confronted a teller and demanded proceeds at a currency exchange in the 3600 block of West 63rd Street, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
The clerk complied and the suspects fled southbound in an alley with a "significant amount of cash'' and cordless phone, Mirabelli said.
The man with the gun was described only as wearing a black hoodie and brown pants, according to Mirabelli. A description of the accomplice was not known immediately.
The incident occurred at 3631 W. 63rd St., according to Wentworth Area detective David DeMato. A representative for the Southwest Currency Exchange, located at the 63rd Street address, did not immediately return a message left for comment.
Unconfirmed dispatch reports indicated two armed men fled through in alley after making off with $50,000 from the establishment.
No one was injured and the suspects were not in custody as of about 9:30 a.m., the officer said.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
