"The blues is the music of Chicago," Rami Gabriel said. "We take it in, and we respect it, and we have integrated it into where we're coming from."
Chicago Police officers were in attendance as special guests.
Amanda Harth, the Chicago native behind Monday Coffee Co., is a determined entrepreneur who exemplifies the South Side's "give it a try" spirit with her company Monday Coffee.
Saturday's cleanup was part of a collaboration with eight organizations dedicated to cleaning up the city and protecting the environment.
"This place taught me how to be a man," said Ervin Freeman, the program supervisor at the HSI halfway house.
Singleton will be the first to tell you her success is not a solo act.
After 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez was brutally murdered in 2019, and her baby was cut from her womb, a Chicago non-profit is making sure her memory lives on by helping other mothers-to-be in need.
The building is at the corner of 79th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue — an area with a history of violence. The church that has purchased it hopes to bring new life to the area.
Sabrina Baftiri has been running since middle school. She became a standout at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, winning an impressive 17 All-American awards.
