Arrest warrant issued for wife of Worcester police officer found dead: "We will not stop until we find her"

An arrest warrant has been issued for Karen Solomon, who is wanted in connection with the death of her Worcester, Massachusetts police officer husband earlier this week.

Kurt Solomon, 57, was found dead by police at their Wildwood Avenue home in Worcester just before 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday. He was a 31-year veteran of the force.

On Friday afternoon, Worcester Police announced an arrest warrant for Karen Solomon, 58, on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon with serious bodily injury. Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier said the warrant was issued approximately two days ago.

A massive search has been underway for Solomon in the area around Mill Street and Coes Pond in the city, about a half mile away from the couple's home.

"We will not stop until we find her," Chief Saucier said. "We want closure for the Solomon family."

Karen Solomon was seen on video walking in the area early Tuesday morning wearing pajama shorts and a tank top. Chief Saucier said Officer Solomon's service weapon was not missing from the home, but she is still believed to be "armed and dangerous." Saucier said Officer Solomon's injuries involved "a sharp object."

A helicopter from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and personnel from Homeland Security and the U.S. Marshals Service were part of the search, as well as divers and sonar in the pond.

"We are still pursuing this until the evidence leads us elsewhere," Chief Saucier said.

The city of Worcester has announced the closure of Coes Pond Parks and Stearns Tavern until further notice due to the ongoing investigation in the area. Chief Saucier said a reverse 911 call was going out to residents in the area on Friday afternoon.

Chief Saucier said Kurt Solomon was an "awesome police officer and an awesome person."

"He's going to be truly missed and the Worcester Police Department is hurting right now," Saucier said.
