State touts latest MCAS results
State officials say there have been strong improvements on the 2010 MCAS scores.
Student scores improved on 11 of the 17 achievement tests given last spring.
The state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education says the number of 10th graders who scored proficient or higher in the english and math exams last school year has nearly doubled, compared with the 10th graders who first took the tests in 2001.
And for the first time more than half of all seventh and 8th graders statewide scored proficient or higher in math.
The announcement was made during governor Patrick's visit to Beachmont Elementary School in Revere.
Third graders also scored higher in english and math than the previous year.
