Moose Hunting Season Gets Underway In New Hampshire

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Moose hunting season is on in New Hampshire.

The 275 hunters who secured permits through the Fish and Game Department's annual moose lottery have from Saturday through Oct. 28 to bag a moose.

An additional five moose permits were auctioned off by the New Hampshire Wildlife Heritage Foundation, which raised nearly $41,000 through this year's fundraiser.

More than 13,400 people bought tickets to enter the state's moose permit lottery this year.

Last year, the state issued 395 moose hunting permits through the lottery. Fish and Game officials say they gave out fewer permits this year because they want the moose population to grow in some areas.

Last year's statewide hunter success rate for moose was 71 percent.

Shotgun season for turkey ended Friday.
