Mass. Social Workers To Gather At State House To Lobby Lawmakers

BOSTON (AP) — Social workers are planning to gather at the Massachusetts Statehouse to make their case for a series of bills before lawmakers.

Members of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers are hoping to meet with state lawmakers Monday to discuss the bills.

Among them is one that would help ensure that children have access to healthy food and homes and another that would regulate solitary confinement.

They're also supporting a measure that would ban discrimination against transgender individuals in restaurants, malls and other public accommodations.

Republican Gov. Charlie Baker is scheduled to offer remarks at the event.

He's expected to touch on the state's efforts to combat the ongoing opioid addiction crisis, including a bill he signed that's aimed in part at limiting access to addictive painkillers.
