Free-Agent DT Markus Kuhn Joins Patriots Hours After Bidding Giants Farewell

By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Patriots continue to add to their deep collection of 2016 free agents, signing a deal with free-agent defensive tackle Markus Kuhn. The team announced the acquisition Thursday evening without disclosing terms of the deal.

Kuhn posted on Instagram as the signing was announced, saying "I couldn't be more proud to be part of such a great organization! Hard work always pays off! #patriots". He had posted a farewell to his former team the New York Giants four hours earlier. As the second German-born player on the Patriots (Sebastian Vollmer is a native of Düsseldorf), congratulatory German-language comments flooded his post.

Kuhn joins a partially revamped Patriots defensive line, which lost Chandler Jones to trade and Akiem Hicks to free agency but added defensive end Chris Long from the Rams and defensive tackles Frank Kearse and Terrance "Pot Roast" Knighton from the Redskins. Kuhn has 24 tackles in 39 career games with two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a touchdown against the Tennessee Titans in 2014.

The other fumble recovery? Against Tom Brady and the Patriots in Week 10 last season.
