March Out Like A Lion?
Quiet but colder than average weather is on the menu for the rest of the month. High temperatures briefly struck 40 in some locations around and south of Boston this afternoon but the gusty wind made it feel more like an early February day at 30 degrees. Expect similar weather for the next 4 days. There will be plentiful sunshine much of the time but a couple weak passing upper air disturbances will contribute a few passing patches of clouds most of which will hang out over the northern mountains where more flurries and locally heavier snow showers will exist. Some favorable upslope places up there have received several inches to more than a foot of fresh fluffy snow over the past several days. Winter lingers for you skiers and boarders. Go have some fun!!
Looking ahead, the blocking strong storm in the Canadian Maritimes will ease away and open the channel for future storms to threaten the region at the end of the upcoming week. Presently, it appears that one weak system could spill a bit of light snow or a mix of snow and rain late Thursday. A stronger coastal storm could clip the region with heavier snow inland and rain along the coast late Thursday night and Friday. Consequently, March could go out like a lion in some parts of the area and April Fool's Day could be white over the hillier terrain inland. Subsequent forecast cycles will yield a more confident scenario by later Tuesday and Wednesday.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
