LOWELL - An investigation is underway after a teenage girl was found dead at an apartment in Lowell.

It happened Friday evening at an apartment on Lawrence Street. The Middlesex District Attorney said a family member found the 15-year-old and said that she had "traumatic injuries" to her body. Police said she had gunshot wounds, and multiple shell casings were found at the scene.

UPDATE: 21-year-old charged with killing girl before her 8th grade graduation

The victim's family identified her as Ahliana Dicky. Her family said she had just graduated the eighth grade, and provided a photo of her before her school dance.

One of Ahliana's friends spoke to her her last night.

"I was on the phone with her last night saying she was going to high school and stuff. She was happy, still in disbelief. She said I am going to sleep. I'll call you tomorrow," Skyla Guthrie said about her friend.

One neighbor watched the scene unfold steps away from his home on Friday night.

"I was crying because I saw the father show up on the scene. I felt terrible for him because he wanted to go in, and the cops, of course, couldn't let him in. I felt like going over and giving him a hug," neighbor Mark Richards said.

No arrests have been made, but the community remains on high alert.

"I'm a little nervous. Was she targeted? Is there something going on in the neighborhood?" said Lowell native Michele.

Ahliana is remembered by her loved ones as being aspirational and positive.

"A positive person. Really positive person. If I'm down, she'll bring me up. She wanted to do bright things in life," Guthrie said. "One last thing I would say is I love her. I'm proud of her."
