Gotta Love It!
This is worth repeating. We are so very fortunate to live in New England. I can think of many positives and very few negatives. Perhaps I'm bias having lived my entire life in ME and MA. To me, we have it so easy compared to folks in other parts of this nation. Despite our vulnerability to harsh winters some years, we are not threatened by frequent severe thunderstorms and devastating tornadoes or relentless excessive heat or serious drought or wild fires or danger of damaging earthquakes, etc. We do have variety with four distinct seasons although some suggest that some years spring does not exist. Each season makes us appreciate every other season that much more. We live close to the beautiful ocean and the mountains and not too many people in the USA have that luxury. Not many people in this country have enjoyed beautiful weather that we've had this weekend. How would you like to be sweltering in 106 degrees in Omaha today? No way, not me. Is that better than a foot of snow? Some of you would certainly say yes to that. I continue to count my blessings as I get ready to go outside and enjoy a few hours of this exquisite weather.
Sunshine will prevail today with a few puffy clouds showing up eventually. There is a risk of a few spotty showers and storms breaking out mainly over the northern mountains. Afternoon highs should close in on the middle 80s except upper 70s at south-facing coastal locations as a south-southwesterly breeze freshens to 10-15 mph. The humidity will remain low until about sunset then slowly creep up overnight so it will not be nearly as cool as the last couple nights when we slept comfortably. Beneath a ridge of high pressure, southeastern MA and the Cape radiated nicely with lows in the lower 50s to upper 40s highlighted by 44 degrees at Martha's Vineyard this morning! Tomorrow morning, those areas and the rest of the region will be in the lower to middle 60s for daybreak temperatures. You will be very aware of the muggy conditions tomorrow and Tuesday with dew points in the upper 60s to 70 which is bordering on oppressive. Additionally, as a weakening frontal boundary slowly settles into the region, it will provide a focus mechanism for scattered showers and storms to erupt. Much of this action should fire mainly west of the I-95 corridor from Providence to Boston. While this is happening, there will be breaks of sunshine amidst all the varying clouds tomorrow. A second more potent cold front will push into the area on Tuesday afternoon presenting a heightened risk of scattered stronger storms in the sun-heated air nudging 90 degrees. Presently, it appears that a storm repeat of last Wednesday's severity is unlikely due to the absence of some atmospheric parameters. Nevertheless, we must be vigilant and keep an eye to the sky under these fluid conditions.
Looking ahead to midweek, we will rejoice again as a mass of summer polar air drops into the Northeast. It may have sufficient momentum to slice well across the nation's capital on Thursday. It will be introduced here by a brisk and gusty west-northwesterly wind of 15-25 mph on Wednesday. This will direct air of very low humidity with dew points back to near 50 degrees again. Sweet! Following brilliant sunshine Wednesday, some partial cloudiness will stream across the sky on Thursday but the air will still be dry. After that, a disturbance arriving later Thursday night will produce showers and storms producing beneficial rain on Friday. If all goes well, this wave of low pressure will exit Saturday morning enabling some afternoon sunshine. There could be further showers and boomers on Sunday from a subsequent system. Next weekend contains uncertainty at this time but it seems unlikely that it could match the beauty of this weekend.
A scan of the tropics reveals quiet conditions with nothing that has any potential to develop over the next week and that is a very good thing.
