Democratic Official Faults Gov. Charlie Baker On GOP Flyer

BOSTON (AP) — The chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party is faulting Gov. Charlie Baker for calling on fellow Republicans to end the so-called "Democratic culture of corruption on Beacon Hill."

State Sen. Thomas McGee called the description "an unfair characterization." He said the language was even more troubling given that Baker routinely talks about working across partisan lines to find common ground.

The phrase was used on flyers sent to out under Baker's name ahead of next Tuesday's Republican State Committee elections. Baker has backed a slate of candidates for the committee.

Reporters asked Baker about the statement Thursday. Baker said the best way to fight a culture of corruption is to build a competitive political environment.

Democrats hold overwhelming majorities in both the House and Senate chambers on Beacon Hill.
