Officers responded around 9:15 p.m. to reports of shots fired outside of the Hazelwood Inn Restaurant on Hazelwood Road in the Rosedale area. Police then received a second call about an armed man down the road outside of Charlie's Convenience Store.
The man was confronted by officers before running away, followed by more gunshots being fired. The man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police said a gun was recovered near where the person had been shot. Detectives said four officers were involved, but it is undetermined who fired the first shots. Gunshot shell casings were also found outside of the Hazelwood Inn.
"(Officers) confronted the subject, who took off running. Shots were fired, he was struck, taken to the local hospital, and a gun was found," said Anthony Shelton, with the Baltimore County Police Department.
Homicide detectives are investigating, according to police. Per police protocol, the officers were placed on administrative leave.
"If the subject should pass away, then the Attorney General's Office will take over the investigation," Shelton said.
