BLOG: Spring Ahead

First things first. Remember to set your clocks ahead 1 hour before you go to bed. Daylight Saving Time resumes at 2 a.m. And remember to change batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Story is the chilly weather for the next 24 hours, then the major warm up that takes place Sunday into Tuesday. Even after a front crosses area Tuesday with the chance for spotty showers, temperatures will remain well above average through the end of the work week and probably into next weekend. There may be another front that comes through late Thursday night or Friday, but again, it looks like it will be weak and lacking a lot of moisture, much like the one Tuesday.

High pressure stretching from western Quebec southward to West Virginia Saturday morning with still a pretty decent northwest pressure gradient across our area keeps somewhat of a brisk wind going, at least through the morning. Since we are on the cold eastern side of the high, cold advection continues and we will be chillier than Friday with temperatures topping out a couple of degrees below the average high for this time in March. There is a weak disturbance aloft coming in the west-northwest flow, and also some upper level warm advection that some models are hinting can bring a period of some mid and high clouds late Saturday morning and early afternoon, but still overall, more sunshine than clouds.

As the center of high pressure slides overhead, looks for mainly clear skies and seasonably cold weather continuing. Wind will not be a factor. As we head through Sunday, the high will be sliding off to the east and with sunshine and warming south to southwest flow on the back side of the high we will warm up nicely Sunday with temperatures making a run into the low 60s after the chilly start.
