But today, be it by planes, trains, or mostly by cars, millions of Americans are hitting the fast lane to start their Memorial Day weekend with a trip. Expedia's summer trends report found it may well be a stay-here summer for many. 63% of travelers said they were planning domestic trips this summer. It's been a lot with her, so I think if we were to do anything, it would be driving distance.

AAA expects more than 39 million travelers to drive this weekend, even as gas prices are about $1.38 a gallon higher than last year. GasBuddy forecasts the national average could hit $4.80 a gallon by Labor Day. You have to make a choice what you want to pay for.

We met Val Shook after her drive from Ohio to Nashville. The gas is a little crazy. Actually, it was a little bit cheaper down here.

At the airports, TSA is planning to screen around 18.3 million people between now and next Wednesday. That's down slightly from last year. Still, Ay'Donais Wilkins was trying to get out before the crowds. I was trying to beat the traffic as much as possible. So Wednesday, middle of the week, I get in and out. Now, the Port Authority says they are still working on that sinkhole situation but are hoping to get that runway back open by as soon as noon today. They are warning there will be additional delays, though, because of that emergency work. And that's just as the crowds at the airport will start to ramp up. Today will be [INAUDIBLE] tomorrow to be the busiest of the holiday, and [INAUDIBLE] AAA [INAUDIBLE] this evening, Friday afternoon into the evening, as well as Monday's return to reality to be the busiest times on the roads.
