Fort Worth Zoo debuts record‑size Asian elephant calf named Sam Houston
The Fort Worth Zoo has welcomed a new Asian elephant calf named Sam Houston, in honor of the historic Texas leader. Sam is the largest Asian elephant calf ever born at the zoo, standing 36 inches tall and weighing 285 pounds. Born April 1 to mother Bluebell and father Romeo, he is the seventh Asian elephant calf born there. Visitors can see him daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
