Senfronia Thompson says she has votes to become Texas House speaker
Democratic state Rep. Senfronia Thompson of Houston says she has secured enough support from lawmakers to become the first woman to serve as speaker of the Texas House. The 87-year-old lawmaker, who has served for more than 50 years, made the announcement after Democrats reportedly won control of the chamber in Tuesday's election.
