As the public backlash to data center construction continues in both suburban and rural parts of Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott is touting that major tech companies like Google, Amazon and Microsoft are signing on to guidelines he has implemented to "ensure data center development does not come at the expense of Texas families or communities."
Construction is underway in the Big Bend region of Texas amid public concern, following months of rumors. Residents in the area first reported contractors with heavy machinery moving into the area in early August. Video and pictures taken by Terlingua resident Natalie Newman and shared widely on social media show bulldozers clearing brush in Big Bend National Park near Santa Elena Canyon, one of the park's most recognizable and visited spots.

"Data center debate aside, we've got to get comfortable with the idea that AI is going to be something that is going to benefit the taxpayers of Dallas in the long run," said Johnson. "We're going to have to become more efficient with everything we do around here, and AI is going to be able to help us with that." He went on to say, "I do see city government getting smaller ... in a personnel sense."
