Youngest Young Fan Wants Him To Stay
WEATHERFORD (CBSDFW.COM) - On the eve of the start of spring training, there's concern across Rangers Nation that Michael Young won't be on the team this season after requesting a trade last week.
One North Texas mom had the tough task of breaking the news to her three-year-old son and the video of that conversation has gone viral on YouTube.
The Weatherford toddler may just be the littlest Rangers fan but Gavin Justice-Farmer has some big views on the possibility of Young leaving the team.
"He loves Michael Young!" his mom, Kim Justice exclaimed. "We probably went to 20-25 Ranger's games this season, and throughout the season he learned all their names and obviously developed his favorite player."
Gavin was just seven months old when his mom took him to the Ballpark in Arlington for the first time. He's quick to tell you who his favorite player is.
"Number 10, Michael Young," he said, "because he's good playing baseball."
It should come as no surprise that the articulate three-year-old boy had some strong feelings about last week's announcement that Young wants to be traded.
A YouTube video of Gavin showed his devastated reaction to the news and has already received nearly 250,000 views.
"I think a lot of people feel the same way Gavin does. Nobody wants to see him go." Kim said. "I think it just shows the real emotion that a lot of people are feeling, but to see it come from a three-year-old, it really puts it on the table."
The toddler even has his own thoughts as to what would happen if Young were to leave.
"He goes for the Phillies," Gavin said, "and the Rangers were bad to him."
If Gavin has his way that won't happen.
"Stay on the Rangers!" he exclaimed when asked what he would say to his favorite player.
Gavin's mom said that Michael Young has seen the video, and that Young's wife called to say he was moved by Gavin's devotion.
