Warm Morning, First Rain

A few things worthy of mention on the heals of the hottest day of the year (so far) yesterday. The low this morning bottomed out at 84 degrees- that is a record high minimum for this date and ties the record high minimum for July.  This was the warmest morning this year.

The other thing of note is that a trace of rain was reported at DFW with a few more showers headed that way. THIS IS THE FIRST precipitation recorded for the month at DFW. Despite the cloud cover and rain in the mid-afternoon hours the temperatures STILL hit 101°; this makes the 8th day in a row reaching that number or beyond. Back in 1998 a stunning 28 of 31 days in July that hit triple-digits. Back in the historic summer of 1980 we actually recorded 42 days in a row.

We expect this showers to quickly die out this late afternoon. Then the skies will clear some overnight and lows will get down to around 80°. Highs on Sunday are expected to get right back to 101° (the high today) with a few clouds and a few storms/showers around in the late afternoon and early evening.

The tropical upper-level low coming on shore down in south Texas is heading west. It is expected to turn up toward Midland and Odessa tomorrow and bring decent rain chances out in west Texas. The weather pattern still shows that moisture staying out our area. We'll continue with 10% storm chances each hot day. Highs are expected to hit at least a 100° each day so the streak will continue.

Upper air patterns might shift to the southeast by next weekend. This would bring in better rain chances and cooler afternoons. We can only hope.
