DALLAS COUNTY (CBS11) - Newly released security video shows a man in southeast Dallas County dragged to the ground as he tries to stop a thief from stealing a car.

"Don't try to stop someone from stealing your car. You end up getting hurt," said Terrence Edge, who is still healing from his scrapes and bruises.

Two weeks ago, he stopped to pick up the mail.

In the 20 seconds he left his car running, video shows a man on his phone stroll casually by and then quickly jump inside.

"Looked back and he was grabbing the car door. I tried to get to him, grab the handle, but he got in good before I could get it open. Then, I went for a ride," said Edge.

Edge says his hand got stuck in the handle.

When he reappears, you can see him dragged to the ground and come free.

"I was petrified. I was petrified that he got hurt. He could have got hurt, he could have got run over," said his wife, Kimberly Edge.

The couple says police last week found their car abandoned in a parking lot.

"He trashed it. He trashed it big time," said Kimberly pointing to the litter piled inside.

Missing from the car are her husband's heart medication and his gun.

She wonders what the thief's next move will be.

"I'm worried because he's armed and dangerous," she said.

This couple hopes someone recognizes the man in the video and helps law enforcement put him away.

"I hope they catch him, and he gets what's coming to him before somebody else gets hurt," said Terrence.

The couple say they won't be leaving the car with the keys inside anymore, even if they're standing only feet away. They're also asking the mobile home park to increase security by adding a gate.
