Twitter "Likes" Hearts, Dumps Favorites And Stars

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Favorites and stars are a thing of the past on Twitter.

As of November 3, the social network is changing how users react to tweets they appreciate, by allowing users to "like" them.

Gone is the option to "favorite" a tweet. Twitter has replaced it with the "like" option. Instead of a star icon, tweeters will find a heart button in its place. Vine, which is owned by Twitter, has also made these changes.

"We are changing our star icon for favorites to a heart and we'll be calling them likes. We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use, and we know that at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers. You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favorite.

The heart, in contrast, is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones. The heart is more expressive, enabling you to convey a range of emotions and easily connect with people. And in our tests, we found that people loved it."

Social media giants Facebook and Instagram also use the word "like," which may have played a role in Twitter's language change.

What do you think about the new icon and language on Twitter?
