Tracy's Blog: Doubly Depressed by Another North Texas Storm? Do a little dance.
This morning my fitness class instructor said she was working us doubly hard for the days we missed last week due to snow and ice. My girlfriend and I were thankful for the extra push, after complaining how fat we've been feeling, being cooped up that long. I honestly think I was slipping into a mild depression without sunshine or exercise.
I knew it was getting bad when I wasn't super excited to cover Super Bowl 45 here in Arlington, Texas. I was assigned the story "Celebrities at the Super Bowl," probably the worst beat for this reporter who's not only embarrassed to chase down celebrities on a good day, but especially when she's feeling out of shape and homely. In fact, I had already changed my original outfit once that morning, emailing my boss in a panic to see if she wanted me in anchor clothes instead. I'm telling you, I was an insecure, hot mess!
Of course, once we shot, wrote and edited our story--and I got a live dose of Maroon 5 playing at the NFL Tailgating tent (oh my gosh, I did NOT know Adam Levine sings AND plays the guitar!)--I made a necessary attitude adjustment. Especially after we, the media, were finally released from our holding pen in the bowels of Cowboys Stadium and allowed on the confetti-covered field.
That's when I came back to life.
What an amazing opportunity, just to walk on that turf. To have access to the entire experience! What a cool job I've been blessed with. Heck, last week Charlotte Jones Anderson personally guided us around the massive Cowboys stadium, and two darling, Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders gave us a tour of their luxurious locker room. And here I was, preparing to go live following the world's most premiere sports event, alongside dozens of national and international reporters and anchors? Tracy, snap out of it!
So I begged a few Packers fans to teach me the dance the Black Eyed Peas had performed during the halftime show, my favorite moment from the night's big broadcast. I then presented my much-maligned "Celebrities at the Super Bowl" package live on CBS11 News at 10 and tagged out the story doing something that remotely resembled the dance.I've gotta tell you, my mild depression instantly disappeared.
Sure, I may have humiliated myself in the process, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.
So today if you're feeling down, as we face another round of snow and ice moving into DFW, I encourage you to start tomorrow with a good workout. At the very least, do a little dance. It will do your body good.
