Texas Sales Tax Holiday Will Be Weekend Of August 9-11

AUSTIN (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — The Texas sales tax holiday weekend has been set for August 9-11 as families prepare to send children back to school.

State Comptroller Susan Combs says shoppers can save money on certain items costing less than $100.

The law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 from sales tax. That could save about $8 on every $100 spent, with some exceptions.

Textbooks, computers and software do not qualify for the sales tax holiday exemption.

Combs estimates shoppers will save more than $74 million in state and local sales taxes during the second weekend of August.

The Texas sales tax holiday weekend has been an annual event since 1999.
