Texas 100 Degree Days Smash Records This Year
(UPDATE ON SEPT 30, 2011) - DFW has now had 71 days with temps in the 100s. The day after this post was published the high at DFW was 101. The number has been corrected in the text, but not on the image.
(Today, Sept. 28, during CBS 11 News at 5pm, I showed the graphic below.)
We know it has been hot all over the state of Texas this summer. But today I took the huge task of tabulating all the 100 degree days at some of the big cities and towns across our great state. And then I compared those numbers to the all-time records. Some of these numbers will shock you!
We know here at DFW we have had 70 days with temperatures in the triple-digits this year. That breaks the old record of 69 set in 1980.
Here is a map showing the number of 100 degree days this year around the state. In parenthesis, is the previous record. Note that only San Antonio and El Paso have not surpassed their all-time record for number of 100 degree days this year. And take note of Laredo… 145 days in the triple digits! Incredible! There have been some issues with the Laredo reporting site, so the 145 might be a little high. I have the complete list below the map along with the dates of previous records.
