'Suspicious Device' Causes Brief Evacuation At Love Field
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Dallas Love Field authorities closed a gate and a terminal for about 45 minutes Sunday when a crew cleaning a plane found a suspicious device left onboard, said a Southwest Airlines spokesman.
At about 4 p.m., the Dallas Police Department was called to Love Field to examine the device, said Southwest spokesman Paul Flannigan.
The plane had just landed at Love Field from Amarillo. The brief closure lasted about 45 minutes. Flannigan said authorities located the person who owned the device and were confident that it wasn't a threat.
Three flights had to be diverted while another 10 suffered 45-minute delays, Flannigan said. The Southwest terminal was also briefly evacuated.
In a Sunday evening release, city spokesman Frank Librio said the item was a robotic device used in a student's science project. The student was traveling with a professor and other students and informed police that the robot was left onboard, Librio said.
