DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- Dallas police responding to a burglary call in progress shot and killed a suspect who was yelling unintelligibly and running in circles late Wednesday night.

When officers arrived at the home in the 1600 block of Conner Drive in Southeast Dallas, a neighbor reported hearing loud noises coming from the house next door.

The two responding officers split up, each circling opposite sides of the residence to determine if someone was inside. From the backyard, Senior Corporal Meltabarger observed a suspect inside the residence through an open sliding glass door.

The suspect, 19-year-old Gerardo Pinedo, was "yelling something unintelligible," according to police. Pinedo then exited the residence, ran around in circles, went to his knees and curled up in a ball. A second officer, Officer Robinson, responded to assist Meltabarger.

When Meltabarger approached the suspect with his taser, Pinedo threw an object at Meltabarger and charged directly at Robinson.

Fearing for his life, Officer Robinson fired his weapon at Pinedo. The suspect was also tased simultaneously by Meltabarger.

Pinedo was transported to Baylor Hospital where he later died.
