Streak in the Wave
The Heat Wave of 2011 rolls right through our weekend as records continue to fall. The low this morning was 84°, a new record high minimum.
Just like the three dozen days before, we have officially reached 100 degrees at DFW.
So this is the 37th time in a row(second longest streak ever).
The first 100 degree day of 2011 happened 54 days ago. Since then we've averaged an afternoon high of 101.3 degrees. We've actually hit 100 or above 44 of those 56 days (for a batting average of .786). Forty-four 100 degree days for 2011 now ties us for sixth on the list for most ever in one year.
If we hit 105° today that will put our current streak of seven (average high so far in August? 107°) all alone on the list at 3rd most ever consecutive days at or above that number.
For children in the fourth grade who have lived their entire lives in North Texas, this is the longest streak of hot weather they have ever experienced.
I suspect by next weekend it'll be the longest streak any resident younger than 31 years old has suffered through. If indeed the devil has laid claim to these lands and this streak somehow continues until September 3, it'll be the hottest weather suffered by any life-long resident of North Texas.
Any relief? Yes, you can literally put this all behind you.
We call it the federal highway system, specifically I-35. Drive north until you hit run into Lake Superior. It would take 18hrs and 28min according to Google Maps. Tomorrow's high in Duluth, MN (terminus of I-35) is 75°.
I would like to be the first to pitch the idea of live weather from the shore.
