Significant Rainfall Expected Next Week

The weather hasn't changed much since Tuesday here in North Texas.  We've had that sun & cloud mix, high humidity air and breezy south winds…and that will continue right on into the weekend.  Most of us will remain rain-free, but there will be a few pop up showers or storms the next few days…but not expecting anything long-lasting or widespread.  There will be a slightly better chance of rain Friday night overnight into Saturday morning…especially over our NW counties…but again the disturbance triggering this will be overall weak and mainly to our north.

Next week, a powerful upper level low will move into the Desert Southwest and put on the brakes.  By Monday, a cold front will push in from the west and increase our rain and thunderstorm chances.  We could see severe thunderstorms Monday with large hail and strong wind..but the overall level of this threat will be determined by several factors, including how many, if any, breaks in the clouds we have Monday as the storms move in.  Because the upper level low will basically stall over New Mexico Tuesday & Wednesday…the cold front will stall over North Texas and provide focus for heavy, widespread rain Monday night thru Wednesday morning.  It appears the biggest threat from this system will be flooding and/or flash flooding.  The forecast rainfall amounts shown below from Monday until Wednesday at 3p.
