Severe Storms Spur Flooding Throughout North Texas

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Rain-soaked North Texas saw flash flood warnings, high-water rescues and motorists stranded on roads overwhelmed by torrential rains Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service, the Dallas-Fort Worth area received between 3 to 5 inches of rain overnight; total rainfall is running about 5 inches above normal for this time of year.

People had to be rescued in the middle of the night in Johnson County as the U.S. National Guard stepped in to assist with flash flood rescues.

In Mansfield, many awoke to find roads that had turned into rivers.

Winds battered areas and structures in and around Palo Pinto and Johnson Counties.

Damaging winds beat up this newly built home near Mineral Wells last night.

High water rescues continued in Johnson County through Sunday morning.

San Antonio and Austin also saw flooding Sunday.
