Rawlings Wins Mayor In Dallas, Price Wins In Fort Worth
DALLAS/FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Mike Rawlings will be the next mayor of Dallas and Betsy Price will be sworn in as mayor in Fort Worth after their opponents conceded each race Saturday night.
Rawlings, the city's former homeless czar, edged out former Police Chief David Kunkle by 16 percentage points with 97 percent of precincts reporting.
Kunkle tweeted that he conceded the race to Rawlings at about 9:30 p.m., adding "I believe he will be a great Mayor for Dallas."
In Fort Worth, with all precincts reporting, former tax assessor Betsy Price defeated former councilman Jim Lane 52 percent to 47 percent.
Lane conceded the race at about 9 p.m.
In Irving, Beth Van Duyne defeated incumbent Mayor Herbert Gears 57 percent to 43 percent. She will be the first female mayor in the city.
In Keller, ISD residents soundly defeated a property tax increase 56 percent to 44 percent.
"Clearly the community has spoken and we will continue to educate students to the best of our ability with the resources that we have," said superintendent Dr. James Veitenheimer in a statement.
Dallas had 9.7 percent voter turnout, and Tarrant had 11 percent. The Keller ISD tax increase had 17.44 percent voter turnout.
