Prosecutor Pushes For Change in Texas DWI Law
Drunk Driving suspects could have more options if a local prosecutor has his way and convinces state lawmakers to act next session. Tarrant County prosecutor Richard Alpert will go to Austin next week to tell a committee he supports offering deferred adjudication to first-time DWI offenders. Alpert tells KRLD suspects could avoid having a DWI conviction on their record, and the courts could lighten their caseloads. MADD has expressed their support for the change IF the first offense could still be used to classify someone who gets a second DWI as a repeat offender.
