ROCKWALL (CBS11) - A Rockwall ISD spokeswoman says the school district has placed a middle school teacher on administrative leave because he's being investigated for an alleged sexual assault of a child.
Rowlett Police confirmed the investigation but say they haven't made an arrest.
Detectives say they began looking into James Smith, a teacher and coach at Utley Middle School in Rockwall, back in November.
That's when the department says it received the allegation involving Smith and a teenage girl younger than 17.
Police say the alleged incident happened in Rowlett last year, but wouldn't give specifics.
Rockwall ISD says it placed Smith on leave Tuesday after detectives notified them about their investigation.
Detectives say they waited to tell the district so they could investigate the allegation.
Both police and the school district says the alleged incident does not involve any Rockwall ISD school, student, or property.
We went by Smith's house Wednesday, but he declined comment.
