DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A man and woman leaving an Oak Cliff bar overnight were severely beaten by six men they do not know and the woman was run over, according to Dallas Police.

Police say the pair was walking towards their car around 2:15 a.m. Monday at West Jefferson Boulevard and South Llewellyn Avenue.

That's when the group of men started beating the woman.  When the man tried to stop them, they beat him, too until he lost consciousness.

When the man regained consciousness police say he saw a black, newer model SUV run over the woman and drive off.  The woman is in critical condition.

The man who was beaten was also taken to the hospital with facial injuries.

No suspects are in custody and there's no word on a possible motive for the attack.

Dallas Police say they're investigating the case as an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with serious bodily injury.
