Nominations For The 88th Academy Awards Announced

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) - Reporters, publicists and industry insiders packed into the theater in Beverly Hills, California, where the Oscar nominations were announced Thursday morning.
The 19th century survival epic `The Revenant' staring Leonardo DiCaprio leads Academy Award nominations with 12 bids.
The strong showing for "The Revenant," including a best actor nod for Leonardo DiCaprio, follows its win at the Golden Globes. It sets director Alejandro Inarritu for a possible back-to-back win following his best-picture winning "Birdman."
George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road" followed with 10 nominations, including best picture. Ridley Scott's sci-fi epic "The Martian" landed 7 nominations, including best picture, but no best director nod for Scott.
The latest on the 88th annual Oscar nominations announced Thursday in Beverly Hills, California, by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences:
The Oscar nominees for best picture are: "The Big Short," "Bridge of Spies," "Brooklyn," "Mad Max: Fury Road," "The Martian," "The Revenant," "Room" and "Spotlight."

The Oscar nominees for best actress are: Cate Blanchett, "Carol"; Brie Larson, "Room"; Jennifer Lawrence, "Joy"; Charlotte Rampling, "45 Years"; Saoirse Ronan, "Brooklyn".
*Larson won best actress at the Golden Globe Awards.
The Oscar nominees for actor are: Bryan Cranston, "Trumbo," Matt Damon, "The Martian"; Leonardo DiCaprio, "The Revenant"; Michael Fassbender, "Steve Jobs"; and Eddie Redmayne, "The Danish Girl."
The Oscar nominees for supporting actress are: Jennifer Jason Leigh, "The Hateful Eight"; Rooney Mara, "Carol"; Rachel McAdams, "Spotlight"; Alicia Vikander, "The Danish Girl"; and Kate Winslet, "Steve Jobs."
The Oscar nominees for best supporting actor are: Christian Bale, "The Big Short"; Tom Hardy, "The Revenant"; Mark Ruffalo, "Spotlight"; Mark Rylance, "Bridge of Spies"; Sylvester Stallone, "Creed".
The Oscar nominees for best animated film are: "Anomalisa," "Boy and the World," "Inside Out," Shaun the Sheep Movie" and "When Marnie Was There."
The Oscar nominees for documentary feature are: "Amy," "Cartel Land," "What Happened, Miss Simone?," "The Look of Silence," and "Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom."
The Academy Awards will be broadcast live on Feb. 28th.
