HOUSTON (AP) — A new director has been named for the Menil Collection in Houston.

The art museum said Thursday that its board of trustees confirmed the appointment of Rebecca Rabinow, who has been at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City since 1990. She's currently the Met's modern art curator and curator-in-charge of the museum's Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art.

Rabinow, who was raised in Houston, said in a news release that she spent the summer of 1988 volunteering at the recently opened Menil Collection. She says the museum sent her on her career path.

She'll assume her duties at the Menil in July.
