State Investigates Lake Worth Nursing Home, More Than 60 Residents Moved
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - MedStar is relocating about 63 residents from the Lake Worth Nursing Home, which is currently under investigation.
At least 20 of the residents have COVID-19, according to MedStar, although it isn't clear of that's why they're moving them.
"About half the patients are going to one facility. There are other patients that are going to different facilities so we will use individual ambulances to take those patients to singular facilities," said MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky.
Chopper 11 flew over the scene as first responders geared up in personal protective clothing in the parking lot near an ambulance that was located on scene.
"This is a process that's going to take us the rest of the day and probably into the evening. These patients are stable. They're medically needy but they're stable," said Zavadsky.
The facility, which is owned by Lake Worth Investments, Inc. had 15 violations of state standards, including 3 health violations when last inspected last August.
"Our regulatory authority allows us to revoke a nursing facility's license or take other enforcement action against a facility for failure to comply with health and safety regulations, and we will exercise that authority as necessary. What enforcement action we take against this facility will depend upon the outcome of our investigation," the Texas Health and Human Services Commission said in a statement sent to CBS 11 News.
Medicare rates the facility "much below average."
