It's time again to relive and countdown the 10 most popular songs in America from 1980 as determined by Billboard Magazine.

1980 was the year Ronald Reagan was elected the 40th President Of The United States. Media mogul Ted Turner started the Cable News Network (CNN). Beatle John Lennon was assassinated outside his home in New York City. The Rubik's Cube hits the market and becomes very popular. And pop singer Jessica Simpson was born this year on July 10.

Below are the ten most popular songs from 1980 counting down:

10. The Rose (Bette Midler)
9. It's Still Rock and Roll to Me (Billy Joel)
8. Funkytown (Lipps Inc)
7. Coming Up (Paul McCartney)
6. Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Queen)
5. Do That to Me One More Time (Captain & Tennille)
4. Rock With You (Michael Jackson)
3. Magic (Olivia Newton-John)
2. Another Brick In The Wall, Part II (Pink Floyd)

And the #1 song for 1980 was……..Call Me by Blondie.

But there was another song that was popular on the charts as well. It was by a group formed in 1972 from Ohio, consisting of two sets of brothers: the Motherbaughs and the Casales, along with Alan Myers. Their style was more new wave/punk rock which was popular in the 1980's (and the movie Valley Girl). The group had a hit in 1980 with the single, "Whip It" and in turn made one of the early modern day music videos with this song which got them a lot of airplay on MTV: Music Television.

Here's the song.

Have a great rest of the week. See you next time.
