This week we go back to the year 1969 and remember the Top 10 hits of the year as determined by Billboard Magazine.

1969 was the year President Richard M. Nixon took office. The Vietnam War was still going on with almost 500,000 men there, with Nixon's "Vietnamization" plan on the way. And the U.S. landed a man on the moon in July 1969 and I still to this day remember CBS News Anchorman Walter Cronkite's reaction and joy to this event.

Below in descending order are the top 10 songs of the year:

10. "Crimson and Clover" (Tommy James & The Shondells)
9. "Build Me Up Buttercup" (The Foundations)
8. "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" (Tom Jones)
7. "Hot Fun in the Summertime" (Sly & the Family Stone)
6. "Dizzy" (Tommy Roe)
5. "Everyday People" (Sly & the Family Stone)
4. "Honky Tonk Women" (The Rolling Stones)
3. "I Can't Get Next to You" (The Temptations)
2. "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" (The 5th Dimension)

And the #1 song overall for 1969…done by a studio group created by producer Don Kirshner… The Archies with "Sugar Sugar".  Their one and only #1 hit.

But there was another artist who charted at #41 for the year. Bobby Sherman was a teen idol singer and actor in the 1960's and early 70's. He appeared on ABC's Shindig in the mid 60's and later as a co-star of Here Come The Brides (1968-1970), also on ABC. As a local programmer in the area at KXTX, I had the syndicated rights to this show: 52 episodes about some brothers in 1870 Seattle who brought 100 prospective "brides" to move from Massachusetts to Washington. While appearing in the show, Sherman launched his music career and recorded his first top 10 hit in the fall of 1969 called "Little Woman" and sold over a million copies.

Here it is.
