Hot Sure But Finally Some Rain Chances
The high today hit 102° at the DFW airport, the lowest afternoon high so far this August. That's the 20th time this year we have hit at least 100 degrees, its' happened every day at DFW since last Saturday. The Heat Advisory continues through Sunday evening as the heat index again will again close in on 105° by tomorrow afternoon.
August is north Texas is not the time we see many cold fronts get into our area. There is a cold front over Oklahoma this evening that is going to head towards us on Sunday:
This front will get to north Texas and wash out. It should be enough to trigger a few storms in our area tomorrow late afternoon and evening. It will certainly be the best chance of rain we've had in over a week. Its been a solid week of 100-degree days but its been a full TWO weeks since a measurable rain. Below you can see the rain chances along the front for tomorrow night:
These chance will be around Monday as well. It is possible these storms will produce severe weather in the form of damaging winds and small hail.
Highs will get continue to hover in the low 100's through the next couple of day. We are currently forecast a continuation of the streak to next weekend. That said, if any of the (few) storms that develop on Monday hit the DFW airport (or get close) in the afternoon we could have a high 'only' in the upper 90's.
LATEST ON ERNESTO
Tropical storm Ernesto is forecast to a category one hurricane by tomorrow night as it moves south of the island of Jamaica. Then it will head right into the Yucatan Peninsula by the middle of the week.
Where Ernesto goes after that is of course up in the air, it'll weaken to a tropical storm again when it crosses land and gets into the Gulf. Will it restrengthen into a hurricane? Probably. Right now most of the forecast models put into Mexico well south of Texas:
This forecast means little this far out. By Thursday of next week we'll start to watch Ernesto in the Gulf of Mexico and see if it'll reach the Texas shore.
