Frost Possible for Some in NTX Tonight

It will be an unusually cold night, temperatures will drop into the 40s and 30s overnight.  Some of the colder spots in North Texas could see frost.

Here are your overnight lows for tonight.

DALLAS COUNTY

COLLIN COUNTY

DENTON COUNTY

TARRANT COUNTY

If you live in one of the colder locations you might want to protect some tender plants.

NOT A RECORD

Tonight's low of 45 at DFW will not break a record.  The record low for tonight is 34 degrees.  But it is quite unusual for temperatures to be this cold this late in the season.  In fact, there have only been 29 times in the record books where the temperature has dropped to 45 degrees or colder in the month of May.

WHY SO COLD

It is thanks to the slow-moving upper level low that brought severe weather to the SE.  We are on the cold side of this system so we have cooler air.  But by the weekend it heats up with temperatures in the 90s by Sunday.
