Fried Jell-O? State Fair Announces Big Tex Food Finalists

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – And then there were eight.

The State Fair of Texas this morning announced the finalists for the Big Tex Choice Awards, and if you like fried foods and bacon, the fair will be the place to be.

The 55 entrants were evaluated on four elements: uniqueness, creativity, presentation, and taste.

The eight finalists include:

Caribbean Pineapple Korn-a-Copia

Deep Fried Pulled Pork "Funyun" Dings

Deep Fried Bacon Burger Dog Sliders on a Stick

Down Home Chicken Pot Pie Pocket (with mac 'n cheese dip)

Fried Jello

Injectable Great Balls of BBQ

Southern Fried Chicken & Dumplin's

State Fair Cookie Fries

Of the eight finalists, that includes past winners and first time finalists, the two top picks to be revealed on August 28.

This marks the 12th year for the Big Tex Choice Awards.  The State Fair of Texas runs from September 30 to October 23.
