Anisah Burks, 35, entered a guilty plea to one count of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance and four counts of injury to a child, according to the Town of Prosper.

Burks recently received a one-year sentence for each injury to a child count and three years for possession of a controlled substance (Penalty Group 2) in Collin County 380th District Court, a news release said Monday.

The sentencing came more than two years after Burks' arrest.

On Oct. 31, 2022, police and fire personnel responded to a medical emergency at the Primrose School of Prosper, where four students – ages 12 to 18 months old – suddenly became ill.

The students were taken to a local hospital, where medical personnel determined each suffered from "severe exposure" to tetrahydrocannabinol through ingesting cannabis-infused edible candies.

"This news has been shocking, upsetting and shakes us to the very core of every principle we stand for," Primrose said in a 2022 statement. "There is no greater priority to us every day than the health and safety of the children entrusted to our care."

Burks was immediately terminated.
