Flooded Driver: 'Just Rescue Me'

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The calls for help started coming in early Wednesday morning.

Several drivers called in to say they were stranded along Fort Worth's Trinity Blvd. near Precinct Line Road.

Fort Worth firefighters had to take boats and tow the drivers back to higher ground.  "It was scary," says Maria Rivera "I was thinking 'just rescue me.'"

Rivera was on her way to work. "I rolled down the driver's side window and just sat on the edge waiting for help."

She says the road was dark and she didn't see the signs warning her of high water.

According to the city when water gets on the road and starts rising, it triggers the lights to turn on.  Throughout the day water slowly started going down on Trinity Blvd., but parts of the road remained closed.

Cars had to be diverted through a nearby neighborhood.  "It's constant traffic," says Rey Cuellar, who lives in the area "It can be very frustrating. It turns into a busy street."

The City of Fort Worth says there are plans to build an 80 foot bridge in the area to alleviate the problem, but that won't happen until 2013.

The city also want to add at least 40 more warning signs throughout the city.  They first have to come up with funding.
