Flood Watch Across The South
A Flood Watch is in effect today for a large swath of north Texas. It does not include the metroplex or any of the counties north of the main urban core but does include all all points along a Meridian(Bosque county) to Kaufman (Kaufman county) line and south. All the counties in dark green are in the watch till this afternoon:
Good rains fell yesterday and overnight across these areas. One to two inches of rain is expected today in these same areas. If you are out driving today be careful around the low spots in the road as heavy rains come in. There will be likely be significant ponding of water on all roadways as well given the heavy rains that have already occurred.
This winter has stood apart from the last four seasons in its abundance of rain. The wet pattern that started in late November has held now deep into February. North Texas is no longer in drought. Its frequency of late should not change our bitter-learned appreciation for it, a statement easy to say if you didn't plan to be outdoors or get around on your Saturday. Rain is a gift to the living when it arrives in reasonable doses, today's Flood Watch remind us that sometimes just the weight alone can make it too much of a good thing. An inch of rain spread over an acre of land equals 27,154 gallons. At about 8.34 pounds per gallon that equals 226, 464 pounds or about 113 tons. It is wise to keep out its way when its heading somewhere in mass.
