Officer injured in fiery crash after chase suspect strikes vehicle on Oakland overpass in Fort Worth, police say
A Fort Worth officer was taken to the hospital after his vehicle was struck by a suspect involved in a police chase Tuesday night near Interstate 30 and Oakland Boulevard, officials said.
The incident also caused traffic delays and temporarily closed the Oakland overpass.
The Fort Worth Police Department confirmed that around 9 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety was in pursuit of a vehicle when that vehicle struck an unmarked SUV driven by one of its officers, causing a fiery collision.
A witness told CBS News Texas that he heard a loud bang and saw a silver Honda collide with a Dodge Durango. The witness also said a person inside the Honda got out and ran from the scene.
Fort Worth PD said emergency crews responded and took the officer, who was in the Dodge Durango, to a hospital by ambulance. Police later apprehended the suspect , who reportedly fled from the Honda.
Authorities have not released the names of those involved, details about the extent of injuries or why DPS was in pursuit of the suspect.
