Fall Weather Sticks Around

Fall weather returned just in time for the first weekend of October and the start of the State Fair. Football games at the Cotton Bowl, Cowboy Stadium and A.Carter all played under perfect blue skies and mild weather today. The playoff game tonight in Arlington enjoys just about ideal weather with a first pitch temperature around 76° and just a hint of wind. Fabulous.

Looking in the rearview mirror at September, it did little to distinguish itself from the summer trend. The month was…wait for it… hot and dry. Only .66" of rain fell, that's almost 2" short of normal. Eight of the nine months in 2011 so far have logged below normal rainfall. It hit 107° on the 13th, the hottest temperature ever recorded so late in the year.  As far as the average high for the month, it ends up tied for 9th on the list:

JUST AS NICE TOMORROW…AND THE NEXT DAY AND THE NEXT DAY AND THE…

The great weather continues for Sunday. Highs should be just a few degrees warmer under sunny skies. We'll top out around 85° with a southeast wind 5-10mph.  The mild and dry weather looks parked right over us for the work week ahead, highs in the upper 80's all this coming week.

You might have noticed a little bit of a chill in the air this morning if you were out early. The low high 55° at DFW,  it hit 47° in Denton. That's the lowest temperature recorded so far this fall and the coldest morning since May 17th. Expect another chilly start tomorrow morning as well with lows in the low-to-mid 50's.

 RAIN CHANCES NEXT WEEKEND

The Red River Rivalry is next Saturday and we have some rain in the forecast. A rather sharp trough is forecasted to sweep in from the west; this not only provides the next chance of rain but also a risk of strong storms.

We'll keep you posted on this as we draw closer. The month starts dry in these dry times yet there is some indication that after the rain event next weekend we could start getting cold fronts/rain chances with a little more frequency. The Climate Prediction Center actually puts a chance for above normal rainfall in our area for the first time since last Spring.
