Authorities in Denton are seeking to identify a driver who allegedly fled the scene after striking two pedestrians, seriously injuring one, early Saturday morning.

The hit-and-run accident occurred just after 2 a.m. in the 2300 block of Carril Al Lago Drive, near N. Bonnie Brae Street and W. University Drive.

According to the Denton Police Department, witnesses said the motorist was in a dark-colored sedan when they struck two female pedestrians and failed to stop. The vehicle was last seen driving north on N. Bonnie Brae Street, police said in a news release.

The two women were taken to a hospital. One of the women sustained life-threatening injuries, while the other's injuries were minor, police said.

The suspect's vehicle, tentatively identified as a 2014-15 Kia Optima, is believed to have a missing or damaged front grill and likely has headlight damage, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing.
