DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/1080 KRLD) - City leaders are working to do more about the dogs running loose in the city after a pack of them put a woman in the hospital.

A 52-year-old woman is clinging to life in the hospital after being attacked recently by a pack of dogs.

Those dogs were seized after attacking the woman and their owners could possibly face charges.

The Dallas Police Department along with Dallas Animal Services and the city are all trying to proactively work together to get the loose dog problem under control.

Animal services is working to raise awareness in owners about spaying and neutering their dogs, but mayor Mike Rawlings says the problem comes down to simple math.

"Dogs can procreate faster than we can spay and neuter them," said Rawlings. "We've got to double up our effort on this."

Mayor Rawlings says if a dog ever attacks a person, the animal's owners need to be held responsible.
